DIY Cupcake Stand

Started working on some of the things I need for Faren's party. First thing, cupcake stand. I've seen these all over the place, it was stupid easy.

Supplies

  • plates/trays
  • E6000
  • candlesticks/clay pots ((small))
  • something heavy enough to add weight when glue is drying
I got everything at Hobby Lobby, I did check Just a $1.00 first but they didn't have much, and I didn't feel like driving to 100 different places. I think I ended up spending around $13 for everything I actually got 4 plates because I wasn't sure if it'd be too tall or not so I thought about doing two small ones, but didn't. But let's get started

Plates I found for 1.99 each

Some actually spray paint their candlesticks, I didn't. It did sort of looked cloudy after glue dried though, you'll see

So all you do is apply glue to both ends of candlestick, find center (which i made a mess with)
Initally I tried Super Glue Gel, yeahhh that didn't work for me
I let this dry overnight

Now play with the babe

New day.....Repeat, again dry overnight

Finished!!! Cant't wait to use this at his party!
((can you see the cloudiness I mentioned))

He needed to be in the pictures too :o)

Whole Wheat Muffins with Pulp from Juicer---Take 2

Take 2 on Whole Wheat Muffins, the first batch didn't exactly satisfy my taste buds. I'm a HUGE sweet eater and I guess I'm so use to muffins being sweet. So I decided to modify the recipe a bit. They aren't as pretty as the others, but much tastier!! I didn't change too much...Here's what I did....

Previous Recipe
  • 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour ((I used Gold Metal))
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tbsp of honey ((think it needs a little more...maybe 3-3 1/2??))
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla exact
  • 1/4 cup oil ((I used coconut))
  • 3/4 cup of orange or apple juice ((I used apple))
  • Approx. 1 cup of total filling ((i used 1- 1 1/2 cups of pulp))
    • nuts
    • berries
    • fruit
  • Muffin liners ((can skip this and grease pan))

New Recipe
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour ((my grandmother mentioned halving?! so I tried it))
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar ((you could use honey instead))
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup oil ((coconut for me again))
  • 3/4 cup apple juice
  • 1 cup pulp from juicer
    • I had strawberries, carrots, pears, pineapple
  • Muffin liners
With the self rising flour this were a lot fluffier, and I wasn't in such a shock like last time, and I got a little sweet too.

See not as pretty, but my mother always says it doesn't have to be if it taste good, butttttt I like my stuff to look pretty and taste delicious. I'm sure they would of been prettier if I just used the whole wheat flour. I'll just blame my grandmother ((Mama Jo)) for that one! :o)

Stamped/Painted Baby Leggings

I'm pretty much obsessed ((behind Moccasins of course)) with these stamped/painted baby leggings, but I don't know maybe I'm cheap lol but I think more than 20 bucks for some baby leggings is a little steep! Okay I'm cheap but heck I thought I could give it a try. So I did :) many flaws but they are just for my babe and he will look adorable in a trash bag lets get real here.

-----Need------
Fabric paint
Stamp or stencil
Paint brush ((you can use foam or one with bristle I'll get into that))
Leggings
Cardboard/Foam board

I have done a stamp and a stencil, lets just say the stamp is easier lol. I've also used the foam brush and one with bristles and I screwed up more with the foam brush just FYI. For the cardboard/foam board you will fold leggings in half and trace onto the cardboard to stuff into leggings to stretch and make sure paint does leak through. Need two pieces one for each leg, I just used a cracker box :) My first pair I didn't pre-wash and everything still looked good after, but it's recommended to pre-wash your leggings. Let's get started!!!

Ones I've found @ Target, I ended up not liking the striped ones with paint you'll see

This is what I used. Found @ Hobby Lobby

Stencils I made out of anything I could find :)

Stamp found @ Hobby Lobby

Instead of just dipping in paint and placing on leggings I put the paint on with foam brush
((because just dipping you have a lot of paint on there))

Press on all areas of stamp

Pull straight off
and repeat
I didn't have a certain pattern I wanted to follow, I just went with it :)

You can see some imperfections, you can touch up if you wish with a small paintbrush

Front & Back...I have more on front, but that's okay with me

Takes about 30 minutes to dry ((obviously more paint more time to dry))
Don't wash until 72 hours after painted

okay I'll show you the ones I used brush on

just stamp with the brush. if you don't hold it right you can have a mess

My helper, Nevermind my dirty floor

yeahhhhhh I didn't like it on these

much better ((and nevermind my spot of paint I accidentally got on the leggings lol))

Paint is still wet, I just finished these tonight. Not what I set out to do but they turned out cute!

These are so ridiculously easy y'all!

My first pair to make. Who doesn't love lightening bolts?! Some people say leggings on boys are girly but it's sooooo hard to find stylish stuff for baby boys!! I love them! Hope you do as well! If you have any questions just let me know, I'd be happy to answer them :)

Happy stamping!!!

Juicing day 4

I've been juicing 4 days? I think, its been going  good today I decided to try something new, I believe I posted the site I got the idea from off Pinterest. The Bluepeary Recipe...I didn't really follow it exactly but same ingredients and was really yummy. Babe and I have been waking up a little lateish lately so I've been drinking my juice and not really eating anything because I'm not really hungry after, I guess that could be bad but I tend to eat a lot during day so it is what it is. Anyway so this recipe.......

Approx 1 cup of blueberries
A handful of spinach
1 pear

It kind of looks brown in the picture but its actually purpleish. It was pretty tastey. People think spinach and probably think that's sick, but you can't taste it, or I can't. This didn't make that much but that's okay.

I researched some about juicing and refrigerating and all  I could find is it lasting 24-48 hrs and in a container filled to top with no air gap. I'm trying it out for tomorrow morning that I can drink some and so can Faren without having to do it once I get home from work. I need to do some more researching since I'm still learning about all this juicing stuff, will update when I can :)

Whole Wheat Muffins with Pulp from Juicer

I felt like I was wasting, just throwing away my pulp from juicier, so I had a thought "OH I bet this would make some awesome muffins." I decided to go the healthy route. That being said I'm a little new to whole wheat flour, no idea what its suppose to taste like?!?! These muffins are decent, I think they need a little something more though, maybe more honey. I did some searching on google and found this recipe...((http://www.100daysofrealfood.com/2010/05/12/recipe-fruit-nut-or-berry-or-whatever-you-want-them-to-be-whole-wheat-muffins/))

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour ((I used Gold Metal))
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tbsp of honey ((think it needs a little more...maybe 3-3 1/2??))
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla exact
  • 1/4 cup oil ((I used coconut))
  • 3/4 cup of orange or apple juice ((I used apple))
  • Approx. 1 cup of total filling ((i used 1- 1 1/2 cups of pulp))
    • nuts
    • berries
    • fruit
  • Muffin liners ((can skip this and grease pan))
I decided no nuts so I can share with the baby

Instructions
  1. Heat oven to 400F
  2. Whisk the flour, salt, baking powder, cinnamon, and nutmeg
  3. Make a hole in center of flour mixture and pour in eggs, honey, vanilla, oil, and juice. Mix together
  4. Now add your pulp ((or nuts, fruit, berries whatever you are using))
    1. My pulp was strawberries, carrots, apple, pear, and pineapple!
  5. Line muffin pan or grease pan now.
  6. Bake for 10-15 min or until toothpick comes out clean
Something else you can do is top with oats!!
Now again I really think it needs a little more honey, maybe a tad bit more cinnamon. (((i love cinnamon)))  I'll update when I bake these again. This recipe makes 12 muffins :) Enjoy!

 Happy Baking!!!

Juicing

Who isn't juicing these days? I bought a juicer ages ago but never used it, gave it to my sister, she gave to my mother, and now it's back with me lol. So I decided what the heck I'll give it a try. I looked at some recipes on Pinterest to get an idea of what kind of stuff goes together. Last night I juiced for the first time

Recipe:
3 carrots ((i peeled them))
1 apple ((also peeled))
2 handfuls of baby spinach

Now, this wasn't delicious, wasn't disgusting, it tasted like an extra sweet carrot. I could probably drink it again, but definitely not my favorite, but again I just started so this is just kind of trail and error for me!

I've had an early riser lately, well two I guess baby and puppy, so I got my babe back to sleep and mommy napped too because he  was up quite a bit. So I didnt get to juice until almost 11 so a very late breakfast, but was highly impressed on what it tasted like!

Recipe:
1 apple ((peeled))
1 pear ((peeled))
2 carrots ((peeled))
2 handfuls of baby spinach
4 slices of pineapple ((I guess maybe a quarter of pineapple))
Aprox. 10-15 strawberries

This made quite a bit, about 3 1/2 cups, it was really good. I love pineapple and it really overpowered which I didn't mind. I went to SAMs to buy my fruit in bulk and trying to save a little $$, so unfortunately I couldn't find blueberries, but I have some frozen that I bought for my son so I guess i'm going to  thaw them out. I found another recipe on Pinterest that sounds delicious that I will try soon. Blueberry and pear ((http://www.amandasapron.com/2013/06/10/bluepeary-juice/)). Link to the other is found here ((http://media-cache-cd0.pinimg.com/originals/3d/ce/e1/3dcee1bc4d640cc76d95c6efe67a3309.jpg))

Now I am not on just a juicing diet, I really enjoy chewing food lol. As much as I love fruit and veggies I don't exactly eat a lot of them. My husband hates almost all fruits and veggies so I'm the only one eating them which I have to say can be kind of frustrating. I try to eat as best as possible being a breastfeeding mom and I haven't been getting in my exercise like I should. I'd love to get some of this baby weight off and tone up. I did start but quit around holidays, being so busy with making stockings which are adorable by the way. I may be adding back to my Etsy shop ((MustacheCuties)). I'll try to put up a direct link to that if I can figure it out. I will keep posted on juicing recipes that taste yummy!

Happy juicing

Monthly Baby Pictures

Watch Baby Grow!

As promised, while baby naps I thought I'd take some time to show how I've done baby boys monthly photos. The goal is to have the same setup each month! Pick a favorite chair, their crib, a basket, anything! You can put in a stuffed animal to show size comparison if you wish. I've chosen to put in a picture frame!

You want to try to get by a window if possible for good lighting. Also the clothing, in my opinion it looks so much better when they are wearing the same outfit. I picked a white onesie. I've seen cute little onesies on Etsy that are labeled with each month those are adorable but being a mommy on a budget I chose the cheapest route. Also on Etsy are the little monthly stickers where you can just stick on onesies!

......I did vertical as well......

I tried to get the same angle each time, I failed sometimes, okay most of the time, but same set up, same prop. That's your goal. Have fun with it! I look forward to this each month. The plan is to turn this into a little banner for his birthday :)

Happy shooting!
